Reviews
Not big nor small, just the right size. The essence of Ikuo Hirayama is so condensed here. No regret to visit.
Beautiful museum featuring both the artwork of Hirayama Ikuo and numerous artifacts from the cultures along the silk road. The displays include items of breathtaking beauty which you may be surprised to see in a location like this. There is above all a sense of respect for the various cultures, rather than simply showing off plundered curiosities as you might find in some larger institutions.
On my first visit, I was drawn to the pictures on the website for the special exhibition "Drawing the Hirayama Ikuo Ruins" from September to December 2023. I entered at 3:30 pm and it was so quiet that I thought there was only one person, but 30 minutes later there were about 4 groups. I am very grateful that it is OK to take pictures inside the building. If you like Buddhist statues and the worldview of ancient Greece, it might be a good idea to visit once. There was a cafe attached, but it was already closed. There is a park nearby and it's easily accessible from Kai-Koizumi Station, so I'd like to take advantage of it if I have a chance to go there.
While traveling in a rental car, I happened to see the signboard, so I changed my plans and visited. Many of Ikuo Hirayama's collections were on display.
The painting of the Silk Road on the upper floor is famous, but seeing it in person is a sight to behold.
It was great.
I went to see the autumn/winter special exhibition "Ikuo Hirayama Painting Ruins - From the Middle East to the Mediterranean"
Anyway, the exhibits were great.
What's more, it's amazing that you can take all the pictures.
The paintings by Ikuo Hirayama and the artworks collected from countries along the Silk Road were wonderful.
2023.9.2 Visit
View the exhibition "From the West of Kunlun".
In addition to the wonderful Buddha statues from the Gandhara period, we were able to see valuable exhibits such as glass from ancient Iran. It is truly a Silk Road Museum. As I looked at the historical relics from thousands of years ago, I was reminded of the romance that came to this museum via the Silk Road.
You can take photos of all exhibits.
On the first floor, you can appreciate Buddhist statues and antiques from the Silk Road, and on the second floor, Ikuo Hirayama's Silk Road series paintings.
The explanation was easy to understand and polite, and the camel statue on the second floor was well made.
At the souvenir shop, the Heart Sutra 📕 was illustrated by Ikuo Hirayama, so I bought it immediately!
It's an easy-to-find place, and the street is named after it, so be sure to check it out.
I could see camel statues and train tracks outside the glass window of the rest area🐪🐪🐪🚞
It was very worth seeing. I'm amazed at how many art objects he has gathered for painting.
There were also discoveries that could only be made by seeing the actual work.
